Integration
Integration means to us:
As an excellent German school abroad, we attach great importance to contact with our lovely host country Belgium.
An official cooperation agreement with the German-speaking Community of East Belgium, sporting and cultural events with Belgian schools, cooperation with Brussels cultural institutions and offers for the whole family open up new perspectives for our school community and facilitate integration into the host country of Belgium.
Integration in school life
Sport competitions
“We speak sport!” – in this spirit, our teams regularly take part in regional sporting events together with Belgian teams. Thus, the Flemish school championships in football, volleyball and basketball are important events in the sports calendar of our middle and upper school. At the annual cross-country race with about 1000 pupils, our primary school children and classes 5 and 6 get to show what they are made of. We have also been taking part in the big Eupen charity swimming marathon for more than ten years, supporting needy families in East Belgium.
Field trips
Learning at the iDSB does not only take place within our own four walls. We regularly take advantage of the many opportunities our host country offers for exciting excursions: Whether it is the field trip to the police of Wezembeek-Oppem, the city tour in Brussels or the technical excursion to Ypres – our classes deepen and broaden the contents of the curriculum through these excursions and get to know Belgium from the most diverse sides.
Cooperation
Literature, sport, art or social issues: the iDSB cooperates with numerous institutions based in Brussels and the surrounding area. This gives our families the opportunity to expand their radius of action and get to know Belgium through a wide variety of activities.
