Study and career guidance
Set the professional course with a competence advantage
With a focus on the future, we prepare our students today for the world of tomorrow. Individual career counselling, learning monitoring and targeted support are just as much a part of our secondary school as guidance on choosing a course of study and a career. And these have been extremely popular for years – even beyond our school.
Each year we organize:
- Participation of our students in the school’s own career fair or a professional career entry fair.
- Professionally supervised work placements
- Participation in university information days
- Preparation for entrance and language tests
- Individual career counselling by the Federal Employment Agency
More detailed information can be found in our concept for study and career guidance at the iDSB.
Job Fair
The job fair has been an integral part of the career and academic advisory service at the International German School Brussels (iDSB) since 1998. It has been taking place in the form of a “job-dating evening” since 2018, where students can talk directly to people from all kinds of different fields. Numerous representatives from the fields of science & technology, medicine, the social sciences, law and business are ready to answer the questions of young people from the 9th to 12th grades in 30-minute talks.
At the heart of Europe, the iDSB benefits from a unique network formed of both the parents who are active in a wide range of fields and the school’s graduates (“alumni”) that are always happy to help out as contact persons.
The iDSB school management is also convinced of the benefits of the iDSB careers fair: “As a school, we are not fulfilling an end in itself, but rather want to prepare our students specifically for their entry into university and professional life. The opportunity to talk directly with someone who is already in a job is an important component in this regard.”
Many schools are concerned with orientation on the path to professional life, for example through work placements or career counsellors. The iDSB careers fair, however, probably is unique, especially with its many opportunities for direct exchange.
