Experience science up close
In Year 6, the pupils are currently working on mixtures of substances and the question of how they can be separated. One important method is distillation. It is used to separate liquids that are present in a mixture and have different boiling points, such as alcohol (78°C) and water (100°C) – the two main components of wine.
The distillation of red wine was obviously a lot of fun for the 6B. The handling of Bunsen burners, tripods and various glass vessels is now well practiced! The next generation of scientists is assured!
